Fall Premieres

It’s raining premieres! In September the Chiara Quartet reunited via the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music to premiere my latest string quartet “Images of Guemes” along with works of GLFCAM’s Cycle 4 composers (Iman Habibi, Bonnie McLarty, and Beatrice Ferreira). If you haven’t had a chance to read my guest blog post on the GLFCAM blog, you can check it out here.

In just a few short days my choir piece Listening (2016) will receive its world premiere in Ohio at the Midwest Composers Symposium (October 19, 2018) and will be performed by the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Chorale (conducted by Brett Scott). I’ve been waiting a while to ear this piece come to life and am looking forward to the Symposium!

And in a few weeks the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra will premiere the work they commissioned from me, The Eagle Tree at their November 10, 2018 concert. This is a companion piece to Images of Guemes, and both works were written in memory of my grandparents. It will be an emotional concert, to be sure.

One last concert to add to the books (even though it’s not a premiere!): I’ll be performing my piece for fixed media and actor, This Is A Test Of The Emergency Emotional Overload System at the University of Tennessee Contemporary Music Festival next week.  I’ve been practicing my emoji faces diligently :D x_X :(

See you there! – JH
