With a unique sensibility for combining experimental techniques with accessible aesthetics, Jessica A. Hunt creates a sonic world in which both the casual listener and the classical connoisseur can find common footing. Shows featuring Hunt’s stage music have been performed to sold out houses in multiple theaters in Chicago, and have been featured in the Wall Street Journal and on NBC television. Hunt’s concert music has been heard from coast to coast, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City, broadcast on FM radio and PBS television, distributed on the Pro Organo label, and played by some of today’s finest ensembles and soloists, including the International Contemporary Ensemble, Oliver Brewer, Dal Niente, the Fear No Music Ensemble, R. Benjamin Dobey and the Gaudete Brass Quintet. Some of her concert commissions include works for the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (The Eagle Tree, 2018), Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings (And So I Looked To The River, 2018), the Michigan Lighthouse Landmark Legacy Project (Three Brass Fanfares, 2018), the Gaudete Brass Quintet (Colloquy, 2016; Dragon Call, 2014; Brass Chorales on Advent Themes, 2013; anti[syn]thesis, 2012; Brass Chorales on Christmas Themes, 2010; Three Impromptus for Organ and Brass Quintet, 2010; and Three Movements for Brass, 2008), the Palomar Ensemble (Inside Outside, 2014), the Columbia College Chicago Jazz Ensemble (Celebration Columbia, 2009), and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City (Songs of Autumn, 2007). Equally at home writing for piano, brass, winds, and strings as she is setting text for solo or ensemble voice, Hunt imbues her compositions with an idiomatic expertise that performers and listeners alike can recognize.
